Download and install HP Wireless Assistant from your computers support page on HP: HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center. It's found under Software - Solutions.

HP Wireless Assistant let's you turn WiFi on or off.

Solution: reset BIOS to default settings

I've been unable to turn the wi fi radio of my HP 6910p laptop back on for a while, since the only switch that can manage it is in the faulty Quick Launch panel; there are no controls at the operating system level and any utility you can install (like the HP Wireless Assistant) won't be of any help because they only tell you that the wireless adapter is off (same for the bluetooth) but the options to enable it are greyed out.
After trying removing the battery and power cable several times with no success, I just reset the BIOS to its default settings making the wireless radio go back on with the touch panel blue light remaining on as well.
Though the Quick Launch panel still doesn't work (it's a HP design flaw seriously affecting this model) the wi fi problem is now solved! :)
