    Not detecting Ethernet cable?

I just installed W7, and now when I try to connect to the internet it is telling me that I need to plug an Ethernet cable into the computer. Well there is one plugged in and I don't know what to do. It seems that it detects the modem, I'm unsure if this is a driver issue or what. I have a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.

Glad to find a forum that's devoted to Windows 7, nice to meet everyone and thanks for your help.

Have you rebooted with out the cable plugged it? And then plug it in to see if it finds it.

It tries to connect to the internet (which it can't do) and then says I have the best driver.

its the not w7 (i believe not as this would have been widespread)
but your specific network driver (way more probable) ...
    Realtek
    download it and install
    specifically this one
