SOLVED: Cannot Delete Files Over Network

I have Win 7 RC machine and i connect via network to a XP machine. I find myself unable to delete files from the XP machine. Trying to delete any file (either by shift+del or right click>delete) results in the file transfer window suck in the 'calculating' stage.

I am not sure what went off because till today it used to work like a charm. Any help would be appreciated!

Okay...i can actually delete files. But it takes a long time (about 2-3mins) for the confirmation window (Yes, No) to pop up. I did check the share settings and they are all normal.

this is due to the size of file and the actual speed of the network, wired or wirless connection, type of cabling, model of router... all dependant on this, not just the OS. also to mention, the target machine included as well (hdd spin up time, access time, ram etc).

Agreed. But it was working fine till yesterday. I am on a Siemens Gigaset router with a wired connection. It was working fine then something went off. I am trying to delete files of the size of 2KB.

I can delete the file after the confirmation window pops up 2-3 mins later. So that means something is delaying. What could it be?

    Solved the problem.

It was actually a botched shortcut to my network folder that caused the problem. I accidentally discovered this when i went to my folder through the mapped drive in My Computer instead of the shortcut and found that the deleting worked properly. I replaced the shortcut with a fresh one and now it works fine.

Thanks for all the help Digger. Appreciated!
