Wireless 7 Internet Problem!

I have just set up a new HP computer for our son........we added a Netgear RangeMax dual band router. Everything works fine except for one problem.......he has to start the computer twice before it will let the wireless internet (built in wireless b/g/n card) connect. It's a Windows 7 operating system......fast computer with lot's of memory and so on. I can sit right by the computer and on my Vista Netbook I never have a problem nor do I with my Ipod Touch. Once in awhile if he walks away from the computer he can come back and it has the lost the Internet and he has to restart....but mostly it's after the computer has been shut down over night or several hours. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it.........his other computer is directly wired and no problems but it's Windows XP. His provider is Comcast.

Any Ideas.....since he lives several miles away I can't immediately try any thing.....so would like ideas on what to work on when I go to his house.

My computer is an Hp running vista also with a built in wireless b/g/n card and it works great........it seems to be a Windows 7 problem as far as I can tell.

Also I might mention I had shut down the computer repeatedly like 4 or 5 times and it works fine.......seems to be when left alone for a length of time.

Nancy, Welcome to SevenForums
Did you try to upgrade the driver for the wireless adapter by going to device manager and right click on the device select properties then driver tab and upgrade driver.

Nancy may have to go to the manufactures site to download the driver. IMO

No I have not done that....in fact I just checked on mine as I was reading it can be a problem.......will have to try it on his.....thanks!

Your welcome Nancy.
Also as THW as added you may need to go to manufactures web site to find a newer windows 7 driver. Or tell us what it says your adapter is and we can assist you with your search for drivers

The above information is what I got from the samsclub web site of this computer. I found it on the HP web site and the drivers..........HP Pavilion Elite HPE-337c Desktop

Is it hard to update drivers from the web site....I have never done this before. I do quite a bit of helping people with computers but not this technical stuff like this.

We bought our son this computer a couple weeks ago by the way.....it's not very old.

Go hear and log in your router information and see if they have drivers compatible with Win 7.

I have upgraded the router (firmware) but I did it through the wireless connection ........I have since read that it should be done through a wired connection.......so maybe I goofed there. As far as I can tell it's Windows 7 compatible.
