When doing the virus definition update through Windows Updates it didn't install the new engine, but I stated an update from within MSE and its taking longer than usual so I assume it includes the malware engine update.

    EDIT: got it.

Are they gonna upgrade the malware engine in the good old Windows Defender too?

I wouldn't think so since Defender is not for most types of malware; its only for spyware.

Thanks JMH , Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be heading towards the top although it hasn't been around for long enough . It had already beaten some famous AVs in AV-Comparatives Tests

Well, it definitely hasn't been pushed, but 't'seems you can rush it by manually downloading the latest definition package.

Even though MSE per se hasn't been around all that long, EnNajmy, there is a solid foundation in Windows Live OneCare, Windows Defender and Forefront.

MS took Windows Defender and added an Anti_virus component to create MSE. That is why MSE will disable Windows Defender when it is installed since it is included in MSE
