I was a tester for this the last couple of weeks. Now I'm wondering how I lived so long without it!
More...Hotmail is making it easier for you to stay up-to-date and be productive on your phone. Starting today, you can get your email, calendar, and contacts pushed automatically to your phone using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). EAS keeps everything in sync between your phone and Hotmail, so whatever you do on your phone, like delete an email, add an appointment, or update one of your contacts with a new number, will also be reflected on the web, and vice-versa. If you use an email client on your PC that already syncs with Hotmail, like Outlook with the Outlook Connector or Windows Live Mail, what you do on your phone will show up there as well, delivering a seamless experience for managing your stuff between your PC email client, your browser, and your phone.
Today, EAS is supported by over 300 million mobile devices worldwide, including some of the most popular Windows, Nokia, and Palm smartphones, as well as the iPhone and iPad. For a full list of supported devices, click here.

Interesting post... I'm wondering how much value exist here as most folks running exchange are managing their own domain mail not Hotmail.
It's mainly to reach out to the iPod Touch and iPad Market that have built-in Exchange support apart from so many phones that this support as well. Some may not support the Hotmail protocols but they support Exchange and will now be able to connect easily.
You don't understand. This announcement doesn't actually have anything to do with Exchange. This allows Hotmail users to access and sync their mail, contacts, and calendars through Exchange's ActiveSync protocol. I, for example, do not have an Exchange account, but I am now able to access my Hotmail using ActiveSync.
I hope that makes it clearer for you and anyone else who was confused.
