Coming up from the old dos even predos /3.1 days I take notice when a new version stands out more then the previous. While 7 is still not final the RCs stand out far more then seen with Vista's RC1 already running far more like a finished Windows.
The only minor bug seen in the RCs to this point is seen in the power options with a custom plan there where each startup or reboot sees the display go into standby after 20 minutes despite having it set strictly to performance and always on. But 7 will still have a few things as expected with any new version to see worked out.
At this point I couldn't use windows seven without further changes for several reasons. The lack of support for Zune/Ipod/Iphone. I am trying to use Thunderbird for my mail program and it doesnt start reliably in W7. I cant access some links in web pages via W7.
I've removed my virus programs and tried all the trouble shooting that that may be the most likely causes and nothing changes. I continue to report the bugs and never hear anything from MS.
Vista keeps chugging along and runs everything I throw at it.
I'll just sit back and wait to see how W7 matures and prices should be out sometime this month.
There are alternatives to TBird like Windows Live Mail and another freeware called Incredimail with it's own annoyances however of cartoon like notifiers that walk across the screen whenever new mail comes in. IncrediMail - Have Fun Sending Email!
As far as not being able to access certain web pages there's probably a good reason for that like possibly being filtered out by the antiphising filters or the default IE 8 security settings not allowing unsigned active x controls among other things. The "suggested sites" feature is usually enabled by default steering the user away from bad? sites as well.
The interest here in knowing the actual retail prices will be to know what MS will want for the retail price on the 32/64bit Ultimate editions. I'll be buying a few!
Zune works fine for me, ive only used it a few times though, nothing too intense.
Thunderbird works GRAET for me, actually since im running x64 i am using
"Shredder" the 64 version of thunderbird.
using firefox i havent noticed any browser problems,
of course i know ive had plenty of problems that most other people will never evne know exist, so, im sorry to hear your having these problems.
actually since hte RC ive bene having all kinds of "Stability" issues, its crashed more than 98 ever did.
It's easy to get copies of MS products from 'over seas' that activate without any problems. But they come with "Corporate" keys, that are pirated. Once MS determines that too many people are using a key they block it. The OS continues to operate, but you can't get any new updates from MS. You also may get warning messages about having a pirated OS, every time you boot up. So you then have to shut off Auto Updates and remove all the .wga files from the PC, to stop the nasty error messages.
But at $399 for an OS, it may well be worth it.
Using my Zune and Zune software every single day under Seven beta 7000 x64 and now RC 7100 x64. no issue at all
What do you mean by "lack of support" ? If you mean that the OS can't access directly to the device without Software, so you shoot the wrong target Seven has nothing to deal with ithunes or zune software obligation.
I tried installing Zune software in win 64 bit win7 RC 7100 but the software wouldn't install. I called Zune support and was told me that the software will not work reliably in Win 7. They also said to check later since they were expecting a fix for the problem. The support tech told me that some people are able to get the program working but others were having problems. Same thing with ipod and iphone. Consider yourself lucky.
Very very very lucky by the way... it's something like my 6th or more installation of Zune soft under Seven (2-3 times under Seven Beta x32 in a Virtual Machine 3, 1 times in seven Beta x64 "hard", 1 for built 7077 x32 in VM, 1 for RC x64 in VM.. and the last in the X64 RC I use at this time)
Never had any issue
