SP2 rtm is just about as fast as Win7 and a nice improvement for Vista.
Have to agree. Although not touted as a major feature of SP2, it certainly improved the processor thread handling such that Vista SP2 performs almost as well as Win 7 RC.

It's a fundamental improvement that I'm sure MS won't want to trumpet as:

    a) It shows that there was something fundamentally flawed with Vista until now and

    b) It removes a reason for wanting to pay to upgrade to Windows 7 (although there are many others that still make it very worthwhile!).

I beta tested SP2 and RC Escrow. I had no problems, but others did and those problems were fixed for RTM.

There are a few people who got new computers recently and they came installed with Vista. I'm sure they will enjoy Win7 a lot more, but for now, they can still work on Vista and not have to shell out more money to replace it (until they're ready to).

I'll continue with the RC until Windows 7 gets released to the public and the RC expires. But I'll most likely revert back to Vista then.

I do like this OS. But the while it's noticeably better, I don't feel the differences are enough to spur me to spend hundreds of dollars to get it. We're already seeing that SP2 in Vista has addressed what's probably its most common complaint: speed.

Its for Vista with service pack 1 already installed.

You can notice the difference in speed once you have installed SP2

There does seem to be some confusion as to why this is mentioned at all in this Forum - after all, it is for Windows 7 and not Vista. However, let's not forget that many people here are also active on the Vista Forum and still have Vista installations. (me, for example), either as multi-boot or as separate machines.
Since we have Tutorials here on setting up multi-boot systems with W7 and Vista, it is only fitting that important news, such as the release of a service pack, is also available here.
If you check this same sub-forum over at Vista, you will see that W7 is mentioned numerous times.

I just finished downloading the iso image good for both the 32bit and 64bit editions of Vista as well as for the 32/64bit Server 2008 simplifying things a bit. You can get that at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

For those who don't want to see SP2 automatically installed through the automatic updates you can download the blocker tool kit from Download details: Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit

This SP2 is for Vista only. If you tried to install it on W7, I'll assume it would tell you it was the wrong OS.

    Bye.
