I updated 1 x64 and 2 x86 Vista installs with no probs. Yes, Vista does seem snappier. Only dual booting the x64 with 7.
My 83 year old dad upgraded and ....... no problems, jeez, miracles really do happen. Thanks Microsoft.
I will upgrade to 7 when it comes out, I'll have to buy a full one for my netbook as it came with XP. I won't be getting the Netbook version as my 1000HE runs very nicely with ultimate.

This thread is justified. I'm sure that most people trialling Windows Seven are actually dual booting, with Vista remaining as their 'production' platform. SP2 is a very worthwhile update for production platforms whilst they wait for Win 7's release.

I for one didn't want to go through all the hassle of reinstalling all my applications and migrating my data to my Win 7 RC installation only to have to reinstall it all again in the Autumn when Windows 7 retail is released.

On a side note Vista SP2, at least for me, is a significant performance improvement over SP1, and narrows the gap significantly with Win 7. The press have obviously had their field-day with Vista long ago, but IMHO with SP2 it has become a pretty good OS. It must be a bit of a risk for MS releasing SP2 for Vista at this stage as, if word gets around, many people may decide to stick with Vista rather than pay a premium for the new OS.

I of course exclude all readers of this forum from that last grouping, as of course we'll all have our pre-orders for Win 7 in a month before the release date

Unlike Windows 7 RC1, this is not generally available to the public. MSDN and TechNet members have had access to this for about two weeks now.

    Bye.
I happened to boot Vista for the first time in days and Windows Update had pushed SP2 already. I'll install it after I'm done seeding 7137 sometime tomorrow night.

You shouldn't see any problems since everyone has been seeing the service pack go right on without problems. If anyone with more then one edition like having both the 32bti and 64bit Vista or more then one system like a laptop or desktop not connected online you can download the iso image that contains the two plus SP2 for Server 2008 thrown in as well.

Even though it is out, and has been beta tested for the last 2-3months, I will still wait a bit before I install, just in case something bad goes down.
But thanks for the helpful info, time to set Windows Updates to let me choose...lol

The Beta wouldn't work on my machine (I had to system restore in Vista's safe mode) for some reason but the release works just fine :)

Just throwing that point out there incase anyone has had same problems with the beta.

Let you all be warned a head of time... there are some things, that SP2 fails to correct and also a few things that SP2 (now fails to work correctly) jams up.

It seems that every system is a little different from the next.
    1. My MFC is now a Portable Device. (works Ok like it should-but annoying that I have no Printer or Scanner. just a portable device.) that means the icon is screwy also.
    2. several (Not all) of my P2P programs are always disconnecting and then waiting for auto reconnect. screws up big DL's.
    3. No, this does not bother my Rapidshare Elite account.
PS: I never had any problems with the betas.. but SP2 (18005) suks (IMHO).

I generally disable the automatic updates entirely and prefer to manually install the larger service packs with the stand alone installers. That seems to avoid any unforeseen issues.

The one frequent problem being reported on the SP2 so far has been problems with the WLM messenger by some. Having just finished a clean install of Vist to start with when seeing both SPs go on that was installed afterwards avoiding any problems there.
