Windows 7: Microsoft: Hardly anyone plays first-person shooters on the PC

Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Mint 9

Why not just scrap consoles and offer a controller (wireless) for those that like controllers instead?

Everyone uses computers, not everyone uses Consoles.

Besides, I HATE controllers.... Mouse and keyboard ftw.

If there's a decline in PC gaming, FPS included, it's entirely the result of all the ridiculous, performance crippling, anti-piracy measures on PC versions of games introduced since DMCA was enacted. Installing a game that is coded to constantly read info from a CD or DVD in a high end PC is akin to making an indy car tow a boat around the track.

PC gaming isn't going anywhere, it's a great market. Coding for PC isn't that bad, you focus more on the API than Gpu vendors, that isn't an issue at all; adhere to DX or OpenGL, then sort out just a few things each vendor does differently.

Also it's important to realize developers, especially larger ones, have software tools for what they're developing, allowing cross coding for Dx, OpenGL, and even consoles, it's not as difficult as one may think. A company will invest largely into a system (CryEngine for example) and develop from there multiple bases for a single product. (This is why porting has become commonplace, ie CryEngine 3 )

There are certain games, that for the forseable future will be better on PC, and the people that want these games aren't going anywhere. FPS can be a grey area, consoles are simple and more mainstream, but hardcore types aren't going anywhere, although a minority, a very large one.

Also keep in mind how easy and cheap it can be to develop for PC, anyone can produce anything, and this is why PC gaming is so good. Huge communities of people producing mods keeping likeable PC games fresh. Sure they have modding for consoles, but it's just not the same, it's not even close. Having an SDK for something like the Source engine, doesn't even compare to a map building kit for Halo!

All this guy was saying is that he doesn't think many people play "FPS" titles on PC anymore, which in a certain context is kind of true, he's not saying PC gaming in general is dying. He's simply defending Microsofts HUGE invenstment in Kinect, if he were working on the "Games for Windows/ Live" team, he'd be saying the complete opposite, and I think that's the bigger point here. What he's saying means nothing at all, because of his motives.

Microsoft Arc Keyboard ... Plays the Piano?
Whenever I turn on my Arc Keyboard using the FN + Esc key combinations, the keyboard makes a long, sustained, high-pitch sound, and then plays a very rapid sequence of notes. Does anyone else notice the same thing about their Microsoft Arc Keyboard?
