I too was wondering how a teen with no job has a boss.
    But then, there's always MOM!
When MOM fires you, you're really in deep Doo Doo!

But, for many years I've helped (mentored) teens who are interested in learning more about PC's. Most became truck drivers.
One is currently a manager of a copy center.
PC's can be real interesting, but they usually don't generate a lot of money (income).

Every version of Win-7, right up to the one that appears on store shelves will be FREE, like the RC1 version I'm now running. So I see no reason to be worried about how much the Retail version will cost. Not for a year anyway.

But the biggest contributor to software pirating is MS themselves, when they price their software above the ability of the average person to buy it.
If it were priced low enough for the average person to afford it, like $30 to $50, piracy would soon just fade away. There would be no need for it.

I once heard a quote from a guy in "Serbia" who said, "we don't buy no stinkin' software"! Unfortunately, for MS and a few other companies, that is also the thoughts of many people around the world.

But, if you think an MS OS is expensive, go to a store and price "Quick Books". Take a crying towel with you.
Many small businesses need that kind of software, but just can't afford it.

So as for how much Win-7 will cost?...... who knows and who really cares?
It will be more than a lot of people can afford and the hacked versions will be flying around the world faster than TWA or Lufthansa.

It will probably get REAL interesting.

If the price is too high, then we the beta testers, may think twice before moving to the real OS. However, it may be worth the extra cost for a gauranteed OS that may be the best. I think microsoft should lower the cost in order to gain extra money from more OS bought throughout the world........

Furthermore, why should you want windows 7 in the first place? Talking about a hype. This is the greatest marketing stunt ever. You just repackage vista, incorporate the sp2 already on the shelves, add some more eyecandy and for next to nothing you have a product only used once by an old grandmother you can sell for more then you charged for the original.

Hats off to MS, impressive marketing talent.

I love seeing piracy justification breaking down to "it costs too much" logic.

yes me too. It's so logic it speaks for itself. That's the good thing about reality, it is so simple.

    ................................................................ D'oh.

Well, it is an interesting situation. I am supposed to be teaching music, but I have no students, and thus no pay. It has been this way for about 3 months. I guess I still had a job, so it still counts.... My mistake. She has me doing tech stuff now, and I start tomorrow (and get paid this time!) so I can "Officially" say I have a job (that pays....)

My parents keep laughing at me for working for no pay, and they kept saying I had no job...... Yeah, so my mistake. Sorry. Lol.

Dell sells cheapest computers and if Windows 7 prices rises, Dell will try to earn money by increasing the cost of annual computer warranties.

It should be completely free for us that used Vista for over a year! I mean, Vista was nothing, if not the beta for Win 7!

During the first RTM release of Vista, I asked MS for the directions to dual-boot XP after finding half my software incompatible... they directed me to women in China that couldn't understand English! At least they seemed to be Chinese... names were, etc. But the fact was, they couldn't understand what I was saying and it took me several emails to find this out.
When I complained and asked for someone that could understand English, (this after about 4 months!), I said I was so angry I was going to sue them. Of course I wasn't, (David and Goliath ring a bell?), but they gave me an english speaking guy that not only had me going in the first email he answered, but also sent me Vista Ultimate 32 (I had purchased Vista Ultimate 32 bit) and x64 as well as a copy of XP Pro do it all with. I mean, brand new copies of all 3 OS's.

This all made me think that perhaps, since I told him I'd saved all the correspondence with the Chinese ladies, he actually was concerned that I'd get an attorney into the mix!

And now they're charging through the nose for Windows 7?!?! Unacceptable. Simply unacceptable, considering the fact that I was a beta tester for the OS!!

But anyway... what ya gonna do?

I change my earlier view, I have no more complaints about the mystery price.

M$'s screw-up or generous favor with TechNet gives me little to complain about.
Got all the Software I'll ever need & glad I got it before the lockdown...
