Microsoft slams OEM crapware

Either Sony has cleaned up their act, or you have removed a bunch of it. Considering the amount of unnecessary junk shown on the download page for the laptop in your specs,

think it is safe to say you either removed most of it, or just didn't install it when you installed Windows 7.

Bought a Toshiba after using most brands at work.. Drop a few things using msconfig... Must say that i'm very happy with Win7 on all my computers.. Still run XP Pro on a few and i'm happy with those... GL :)

Ohhh NO ..Sony still has load of junk wares with their new systems ....
Funny thing is...When i contacted Sony for upgrading to w7 ...they said mine CAN NOT run on wds7 ?
I bought a retail one and installed it anyway .....guess what ..? it runs great without any drive from Sony ...
I only need Sony Utility software that comes with web cam drive and volume,brightness and AV control .
Very happy with my lappy now...

Sony offers the fresh start option, all crapware removed except for office 2010 starter and the Adobe Bundle (which is the worst of the bloat in the first place), but only if you pay an extra $50 to have 7 professional installed. That's funny because when you buy windows 7 oem in packs of 30, the difference between 7 HP and 7 Pro is only about $20 per license.. and I imagine it's not too different in a much larger scale

Sort of puts a dent in Lee's theory of how much more it would add to the cost of a computer doesn't it. I believe Dell also has (or had) a similar kind of program available at one time.

Sony is no exception to the general rule.. Not all of their laptops have the "fresh start" option.. it's primarily only available on high end systems, though with there are a few exceptions on lower end models that are limited to a specific HW configuration, so it's not that great of a deal. My interpretation of that is their marketing strategy is"if they can't spend at least $2000.. f@^% em."

You have to pay at least $4000 for a laptop with no bloat except for the office trial. but it comes with an i7 840QM, 8Gb memory, dual SSDs in RAID 0, a GTX 4 series GPU and a Blue ray burner. I guess that's for only the customers they value

It doesn't matter how much money you have.. you can't get a laptop that comes with a zeroed HDD and a windows disk from any major manufacturer.

A factory bloatware install is corruption itself. It gets worse when you try to remove it, creating irreparable System Files no matter how gingerly it's done.

If MS really wants to help, they would require manufacturers to provide a clean-copy install DVD on demand. We were told this was the case, and hopeful because they did in fact enforce it on Win7 Factory Upgrade kits. Yet manufacturers like HP are turning away clean DVD requests if not made with 15 days, others flatly refusing.

These manufacturers are desperately enforcing their sponsor's bloatware since it may provide the profit margin on today's consumer rig. Users have to lie to them and say they didn't clean reinstall if they want OS support, reinstate the factory image if they need to RMA for anything.

It is as if the machines are only being leased and still belong to the manufacturer who are allowed to deliberately throttle Win7. Many Users don't even know it is a feather-light instantaneous OS.

We help with dozens of clean reinstalls weekly here, with users reporting the results are "better than new."

I don't even charge to do a clean install on a new computer at my shop, so long as they're willing to wait a few days. They almost always come back later on when they have other problems or decide to upgrade

very true i have a genuine copy of vista 64 bit retail with over 500 pieces of software some beta i have put onto my system and vista hasn't played up once hence i still use it despite i have a triple boot system with xp and windows 7
vista was always reliable but not in a OEM

I've witnessed people "acquiring" Windows 7 "images" due to crap-ware for the sake of a clean and fresh install. Companies shouldn't be surprised when their costumers are resorting to piracy where they simply want something without any hassle.
