As much as I would tend to agree, even both versions (10.04 and 10.10) Ubuntu distros came with Ubuntu One, which as you might guess, is their cloud computing module. As I have not tried Mint in quite some time now, so I wouldn't know if Ubuntu One made it to the Mint distro or if Clem has stripped it from the install. Since Mint is based on Ubuntu, I can only assume it will be there. I will try Mint again after they make it Debian based rather than Ubuntu.
My point being that there will be a non-cloud based Linux OS, even if MS and Apple have already moved over.

"Online" Data Transfer will way too slow to make a good OS without new hardware in every city in the country (and in every computer) - Maybe someday !!!! - then we wont need hard drives - just ram

I have not read the article yet, but I will. Just perusing y'alls comments tho.

IMO, its just another mechanism for capitolistic control. Do not get me wrong, I believe in capitolism, just not rampant, unregulated, unchecked, immoral capitolism.

The human race likes to think of itself as the earth's end all to be all. At the individule level we are still animals, stuck in the survival of the fitest mode. The super squirrel nut savers mode is what is the biggest problem this planet has. Modern corporations have no morals, never forget that.

Remember the wealth of the planet is finite, for someone to be a billionaire means someone is going without.

Looks like cloud computing will only benefit those that are selling it. It will be just another yoke for the basic man at large.

Big Brother might be right around the corner!

I was arguing with some Right Wing "Knuckleheads" (on another site).
They believe that there are infinite amounts of money and/or resources.
If you aren't a billionaire, its your own fault.

The irony is that they are paying "top dollar", to be spied on 24 hours a day.

Question...In the great days of future computing in the cloud...Hackers will have a field day. The problem for the individual will be WHEN not if the cloud gets hacked and the hacker replaces / modifies records or documents to incriminate that individual. What defence will they have?? The cloud operator will HAVE to deny the hacing otherwise they will be out of business and the innocent individual could end up behind bars....

I guess the cloud operators will need exceptional security or they'll just be absolved of any wrong doing. And if certain cloud operators do lose business then we will see competition and segmented cloud's - thus not REAL cloud computing, just pockets of corporate entities with total control of the data of those who choose to use their cloud.

join the microsoft cloud! join the apple cloud! join the google cloud! etc. etc.

it will be less freedom in personal computing.

Just do not buy it. Use the traditional OS till they will no longer support it. More than likely we'll all be dead before it becomes dominant.

Knuckleheads are unfortunately running things. And now that the United States Supreme Court has made it possible for foreign nationals and foreign corporations to secretly influence our political system, things will get worse.

VOTE, vote out the encumbant. Remove the career politicians from office!
Boehner, Reid, Pelosi, and McConnel need to be fired. Over a 100 years of corruption between them.

Yeah I know its spelled with an i.

Just doesn't sound very safe to me. With all the data flow how do you protect it?
