If MS wants to get their product out to the masses as quickly and as affordable as possibly this is going to happen. A decade or two ago a computer cost thousands of dollars and that minimized buyers and subsequently $$ for the software manufacturers. This crapware seemingly lowers the cost of pre-built machines by off-setting production costs - even though some manufacturers use crappy hardware anyways.

This is the paradox MS is facing - get your software on machines that can be sold quickly, but face the consequences of having it share a home with crap. Most retailers carry about 4 to 5 major pc manufacturers, and many of them have lowered their values. I won't name any names but I have seen some "premier" brand names turn to crap quickly.

What is the percentage of people who purchase computers who don't know shit about what goes into them vs. those who do know? And how many of them care? The sales persons usually don't care what the average joe buys or actually influenced to push the machines with all the bloat/crap. Hell half of them couldn't walk their way out of a paper bag.

Having purchased eight laptops over the past few years I have been alarmed by the exponential increase in unwanted bloatware with each succeeding purchase..

There is no way I require, need or indeed should have to tolerate loads of unwanted pre installed crap. [ & all the time & effort that is required to get rid of it.]

With increasing complexity of programs / systems, the bloatware can actively interfere with day to day computing. It is no longer just an irritation - it now can cause real problems.

I have complained loud & long to both the manufacturer & Microsoft.
Microsoft listened, referred on & treated the matter seriously.
The manufacturer was unhelpful to say the least.

I came across this screen shot a while ago and have saved for when discussions like this come up,



that was on a new Sony laptop. Notice where the scroll bar is. Sad thing is that that is only showing about 1/3 of the pre-installed crap.
