you realy think that cd,dvd, games would be cheaper if there wouldnt be piratecy ?

    Yes.

Let's take mother nature and accidents out of the discussion right off the bat.

Now...look at home owner's and car insurance.

Tell me the premiums wouldn't be less if cars weren't stolen and homes broken into.

I live north of Detroit. The farther you get away from the inner city, the cheaper the insurance...(I'm not kidding, they ask if I'm north or south of 12 mile when I've priced car/home insurance, which I do yearly...shop for rates.)

Theft of anything raises the price. Pure and simple. Economics 101.

In a store, security cameras, recording equipment, security personnel all cost money..which is passed onto the consumer in the purchase price.

I don't think piracy has affected CD, DVD prices. They are f'n expensive because you have the revenue-sharing among so many people, especially DVDs.

You have the studio, DVD cost, actors, producers, writers, etc sharing $25-$30 DVD price.

They were expensive before piracy, and wouldn't be any cheaper if piracy stopped.

very true thats why i dont buy music you have internet radio you are set with all other bs aside the only thing worth purchasing is software and hardware music and movies come out so fast not worth the time and energy to copy them and sell them

Thus piracy only made these people push it out alot faster instead of dragging it around for months in thearters or playing the holly hell out of it on the airwaves one way or another old school tape deck or recording device it is easy to nab music

So you see, I was continuing the devils advocacy. Or did I preface my comment with "Kyle you jerk"? Some of us are able to follow a thread, no need to get defensive when someone agrees with you.
Maybe I missed something here, but your comment didn't seem to agree with what I said in the slightest.

Possible break down in communication maybe, but I wasn't getting defensive, only furthering the debate, because like I said, your comment didn't seem to agree mine. This is an online forum, I'm not in the business of getting angry at what people over the internet say.

Yea, my intent was to just continue your "shame on Bob" comment, by expanding on it.

And as for the question on prices coming down if piracy stops, there is NO way that will happen. They have developed a pricing structure that supposedly accounts for "theft", just like WalMart on shoplifting. They will never lower their price, but it could stop them from increasing.

I remember the argument back too many years ago, about how much cheaper it was to produce CD's as compared to the prior media, so we would see prices go down. I'm still waiting.

But the eventual price impact is still irrelevant. It's theft, pure and simple.

    Addendum
To be specific. Torrenting is the same as giving it to your friend to copy. Illegal and indefensible except for a "I can decide what copyright laws apply to me and how to interpret them" basis. So if you are arguing that people are hypocritical on one end, so the other end is okay, then yea, I do disagree totally. Other people's hypocrisy does not fit any legal defense that I'm aware of.

That doesn't happen until you hit 25 pages of comments. Still a ways to go.
