    I would rather it be an internal drive. I think that is a better promotion. If people are upgrading from an older windows, chances are their internal drive is smaller. And with most casual PC owners, they are more interested in internal drives. The more savvy users want the portable.

    Just take the hard drive out of the enclosure if you want to use it as an internal drive. It's 5,400 rpm, though. So take that for whatever it's worth for use internally.

    That can be very hard to do depending on the make. Also voids all warranties on the drive.

    I agree an internal 7,200 rpm sata II drive would be much more ideal for some people. However, my point is that you can decide to make lemonade from this lemon since it's free, or not.
