So will we be able to activate our RC versions of Ultimate without a new install. I've been customizing like crazy and don't really want to do it again with the retail comes out. Thanks

But to boot from 6 floppies was so slow, make a hidden directory \Win31 copy all the files from 6 floppies then make 6 dir disk 1, thru disk 6, then when a customer had a problem you simply went over and clicked \dos typed cd win31 started and viola it was really fast to repair. ahhhhhhhhhhh for the good old slower than syrup days.
I do remember when windows 3.1 was an upgrade disk.

You have to remember, most people do not know as much about computers as we do.
As for being suspicious, I haven't tried it, so I can't help any there...

You haven't tried it?
Let me wait for someone to try it. Then I'll surely give it a shot.
I don't have Vista installation disk (got it pre-installed) so can't try.

I presently finishing off a second install of the 64bit RC on another drive to keep two working copies going under different circumstances. Once 7 is out I'll have a few ideas on how things will be setup for that.

The downloads from TN Plus would be full install images only there mainly for testing with the exception of the RCs.

Win 7, XPSP3, Ubuntu 9.04, and even Win 98, no Vista

Actually did an upgrade from vista here and running perfectly. 1 month old laptop that vista crashed on so many times, I had installed Ubuntu just to be able to use this thing. Dl'ed and installed 7 about 2 weeks ago, and I really think they (MS) got it right this time. They should offer a discount to anyone that got stuck with vista ('cause is sux that bad). I personally feel that vista was an unviable and renown failure, But 7 has redeemed them somewhat. Still an old XPSP3 junkie (have even Beta tested sp1 and 2) and really might just upgrade that computer too. Right now, we have 2 laptops running 7, 1 running vista (that we are giving away as a gift soon), and 3 desktops and a 10 year old PIII laptop running XPSP3. (Also still have a Win 98 machine, just for the hell of it). All machines except 2 run a dual boot setup with either anothe MS os or a linux os. We were really disappointed with vista , to the point that my wife was even getting into linux, but kind of glad to give this w 7 another try. Just really would like to see ms do something for the vista sufferers. Just a bit of a rant. THanks for listening( oops, reading)

The problem with Vista isn't that it's not a good stable version but simply Windows growing too large! The drastic improvements seen with 7 can be attributed to the recoding from the ground up as seen with the new MinWin kernel.

Without a constantly growing in size core the overall performance increase is noted more so on older systems even more. Despite using a bit more drive space then Vista once on the most noticable item is how fast the installation proceeds even over 98! It always took some 40-50minutes on average to reach the desktop for the first time now seen in only 20-25minutes!

I like Seven so much better than Vista, that I ordered my new laptop with a blank HDD. Just for Seven.

Now I will have two comps on seven (when my laptop comes), which will be great for learning about networking and such.

upgrade pricing pressure from Apple
Ok MS, Apple has just applied some serious pricing pressure for upgrading. Due in September, current Mac owners can upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard for only $29!! Now, I know I know, the OS's are very different and I don't expect MS to go THAT low for Vista owners...but come on! You just...
