i read about that. i deal with people all the time who would fall for things like this. while people like us would spot it immediately most "mum and dad" users would have no idea and fall victim to these type of attacks
Threats remain easy to spot, but experts warn that this latest malware assault uses the latest advances in criminal technology.moreSecurity experts are warning of deceptive e-mails that claim that Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Outlook needs an update.
"The e-mail claims that you have a new message in Microsoft Outlook, but you need to reconfigure your settings (by clicking on the helpful link) in order to read it. Of course, the e-mail is bogus and you're actually in danger of handing over details of your email settings to internet hackers," Graham Cluley, Sophos security expert, wrote in his blog.

Outlook? Easy to spot! Vista has Mail and Seven doesn't have any e-mail client XD
Also, I use Thunderbird
Thanks, I'll be on the lookout. I use Windows Live Mail anyway as I've found it works well with Messenger, and like Windows 7 overall it doesn't have that ****ty "from MS" feeling that Vista or IE give users.
Well excuse me for being a IE 8 feed the hungry user! Internet Explorer 8 - Better Browser
It sounds like another effort at seeing another botnet for information collection on things like the recent paypal fiascle. For those still using OE, WM, or Outlook the first thing to do with "strange" email with a file attached is dump it right away.
Treat it like the spam you often have to clean out from an ISP email account while a few online clients including WLM block spam in general. With one online provider used here even the genuine MS newletters tend to get flagged with images blocked despite being on the safe sender list!
Even with the new ISP I have to clean out the spam on any account setup through them. Fortunately that doesn't see the same volume the old one saw and continues to see when I go to look after any lengthy period! "select all, delete all"!
