How unfortunate.
Firefox 4.0 Pushed Even Further Back into 2011 - Softpedia
Firefox 4.0 has been pushed even further back into 2011, after Mozilla confirmed a consistent delay for the next generation of its open source browser in the second half of October 2010.
After it announced the postponing of Firefox 4.0, the browser vendor updated the Beta release schedule. Looking at the dates planed by Mozilla, it is clear that the project has slipped yet again, and that customers will have to wait even longer to get the final version of Firefox 4.0.
For example, Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 should have already been delivered at the end of the past week, on November 12, 2010. This is clearly not the case, especially since early adopters have just received Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 for testing.
Beyond Beta 8, Mozilla has two more Beta development milestones lined up, both planned for release by the end of 2010.
At this point in time, the open source browser vendor is looking to offer Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 in November, or in early December at the latest.
I tried the beta, I have a new box i7 quad core 870 1024nVidia gts240 and it took the thing almost a full minute to open! I removed it.
With the way delays are going let hope this is going to be one awesome browser.
Right now it is a very slow product. FF is falling behind.
This delay is going to be detrimental to Mozilla with other browser betas gaining ground.
I'm not really concerned. As a long time user of Firefox....and currently happy as can be with 3.6.12....Firefox 4 will arrive when it's ready.
Just because a browser release gets delayed, doesn't mean that I'm going to simply jump ship and flip to IE, Chrome or Opera. I've tried IE and I cannot say it was anything spectacular. I've used Chrome from time to time, but just don't seem to stick with it. And Opera....I haven't really given that much time too....as I don't really feel that I am suffering from any major obstacles with my current browser.
