    Neither do I, bridge33.

If the issue were widespread, a fix would have been released immediately and I would surely have posted about it.

I'm really sorry to hear of your issue and, with all due respect to you, I don't think this can be laid at the feet of the AVG team.
I agree with that assessment and logic, however there is no doubt being that I actually tested the update two times i.e. loaded the image again X2 with no problem and then did the update with the same result and on the third time installed Avast eliminating the problem, that AVG is at least playing a part in whatever was modifying my web shortcut icons. I have no other glitches or hiccups in this system and did full system scans with both AVG before the uninstall and Avast after with 0 problems. Whatever the case thanks for your response.

The important thing is that you resolved the issue. I'll do a bit of checking on this and get back to you.

Again, sorry to hear you ran into this issue. Such things are never fun, as I mentioned early on in this thread regarding the AVG fiasco that is the subject therein.

Do you have the paid version or the free version of AVG?

That's very considerate, have a pleasant evening!

Sorry missed that last part--I had the free edition. AVG has been good to me and I've had them from the beginning. I have nothing bad to say about AVG, this is just a bump in the road.

    Thanks, bridge33.

It is possible AVG removed a piece of malware, after the update, that got through prior to the update thereby altering a key logon component in the registry as related to Explorer. I can understand that such a possibility, alone, might cause enough concern to try a different AV. Should you desire to retry AVG at a later date, please don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

All software can have various glitches. One of the avast updates also created several issues for Dell owners. It has been my experience that AVG have more than as compared to the others.
