i guess it's better for the Brits, at least you don't have the feeling to be taken for idiots. The idiots decided for you, you still have selfrespect.

We lost all confidence and can't be bothered anymore. We're only hoping the Irish and the Tsjechs will block the adoption of the lisbon treaty.

dont get me started As you may have gathered by now i delved deep into what makes the EU tick and it's a horror story.

It to far OT but i could put here examples that would make your skin crawl and made you think if we'd only be in Orwell's 1984 we'd be much better off.

Microsoft is in talks with the eu commission - The Inquirer

You may read in the article that Kroes is on her way out, but recent changes in Dutch politics have made a second term more likely.

The current prime minister (Christian Democrat) is scared sh*tless she will return to the home politics as she (Liberal, current opposition party) is a shoe-in at the dutch general elections in 2010

I am glad that whole EU thing is working out so well for ya.
Penalising an American company has no adverse effects on me at all , if anything Opera ( A European company ) may gain from it. Cant see it myself as they make junk that has no market share and no appeal.

What the EU are doing is wrong in my opinion, If Fire Fox want to get more market share follow Google's lead and make an OS with the FF brand all over it, Just like Apple do.

Wasn't MS forced to release an OS with no media player at some point in the US ? ( Obviously not by the EU)

well, that's what you get for letting a monopolist set the standards. Sites only accessible with their product.

That's what the EU overlooks, MS's ActiveX malware has already taken over a big chunk of the internet.

People who are not computer savvy but install something other then IE will find themselves confronted with ActiveX infected sites working badly or not at all. They'll blame the browser and switch to IE.
Well it is sort of to late now. It should have been done a long time ago IMHO

I can understand how it might seem a bit over the top with this move however if it had been done years ago perhaps I wouldn't be in the position I am in now.

I wanted to buy a mini notebook that ran linux but opps! not an option for me Reason is I have to run IE to login to a site for work.

Yes I checked and there is NO other option. There are well over 10,000+ people in my city who have to use the same site for work with no option other then to run IE. When complaining all I get is almost a surprised response as in what is the problem everyone has IE?

When do they plan to change the site so you can use it with other browsers? No plan right now maybe 2-3 yrs.

If someone had stopped microsucks from shipping windows with IE we would have a mix of browsers used and no one would be creating sites that only worked with IE as they would have to design them to work with multiple browsers instead.

I like windows 7 and run it on two computers but it would be nice to have the option to run something else. I don't really have that option because no one stopped Microsoft from shipping windows with IE.

Why am I reading a windows 7 forum? Well it currently seems to be the best version of windows and for work I have to run windows with IE.

    Sorry end of rant

Sorry to burst someone's bubble but active x is not MS neither is Java runtime or flassh player! Active-X.COM - Your ActiveX Component Library since 1996

Java was produced by SUN Microsystems an independent computer manufacturer like Apple with it's own OS called Solaris. java.com: Java + You

Of course most right off are familiar with Adobe by name alone for their reader, flash player, shockwave player, Photoshop, etc. there. Adobe - Downloads

MS has full intent of buying out Google if you notice the new Bing search engine seen lately. Google by another name? could be!

The one thing most don't realize is Microsoft is taking the rap for everything while MS actually subcontracts work out to smaller companies! MS has grown so big due to wrapping itself around all those by taking them under it's own wing.

It's a conglomeration of several actually explaining all the new arrivals like move maker and other new extra goodies being introduced.

If i build a car, and subcontract the window wipers and they make the windows dirty instead of clean i'm sure i can't redirect my clients to the subcontractor to complain.

It is a well accepted fact that practically all of MS's 'innovations' have been bought elsewhere. AxtiveX is no exception.

But as the saying goes: it's not the size that matters but what you do with it.

So if you utilize a substandard component to try to prevent Java from becoming a standard it's your responsibility.

Well another thing you can look at as well is the introduction of the Google Chrome OS being another open source type OS with intent on cutting in on the 96% netbook with Windows scene there.

As far as substandard I never count on the MS malware tools having tested several other 3rd party programs to pick out the few effective ones. Yet you see Windows Defender included in 7 as well as it's predecessor Vista.

The one new thing now being seen with 7 however is the option to remove IE entirely which is one thing that the EU never bothered to even look at. They fail to see that with the initial opening up of the internet to begin with MS was about the first if not first at providing a working browser to get online with first available as an optional component.
