Then you have to go out and relocate the exact same article again. That can be a real pain .... when it was one that was hard to find to begin with! "not me day"

The IE 8 seen in the beta build was itself the beta version of IE 8 seen there as well. Be glad that part is over since the beta for any browser tends to be buggy at times! Well that's it's called "BETA"!

Once 7 is finally out on the 10/22 you'll likely see a IE 8 for 7 link along with those for XP and Vista since IE 8 can be removed from 7 as well as all those using 7 E trying to download copies when that time comes!

This is one of the reasons Unix never caught on, there was no uniform distribution for business to interact with. You had Posix compliance, but that was all.

Windows created an actual standard that was uniform internationally. This, of course, requires an almost monopolistic standard, but at least we have some form of usability.

HI Phree nice to see you back.

in short: open source = (almost) free, MS = completely over the top in price.

It was my understanding that the full version of Win7E [OK sans IE8] is on pre-order offer in the EU as from 15th July?
yes with browser, the standard US package.
I'm sure most of you are completely honest well meaning citizens. I am not i must admit. I paid MStax since the 80's, they owe me big time. i'm going for the free upgrade to vista sp3 (aka Windows 7)

HELLO!!!

MS decided to ship without browser, NOT my favorite milf Kroes.
The EU only wanted MS to comply with EU regulations on anti-competitve behaviour.

How do you come up with "completely over the top" in regards to price? MS has very good deals for schools and government agencies. Also, while I have no problem with open source formats for documents, although pdf (not open source) is still the de facto standard), I much prefer an actual standard on the desktop/OS.

The promise of Linux on the Desktop has been going on for almost 15 years, and we still don't have a standard desktop. How are different agencies supposed to interact if each one has a different desktop, different theme, different distrib? It doesn't work. Windows fixed that. And for that, I am thankful. Otherwise, you are dealing with an IT nightmare, that must be paid for. And labor costs quickly trump software costs in a hurry.

And we can cry about retail prices being soo expensive, but let's be real. Here in the US, you can buy a quad-core 4 GB RAM machine with Vista Home Premium for around $700 from the bigger named integrators, i.e. Dell, HP, etc.. Just pricing parts, I come to approximately $650 that means the actual OS is probably in the $50 range. How is that "Over the Top" Expensive? The vast majority of OS sales are OEMs (approx. 93%). No one is getting screwed on OS pricing.
