Using OSS makes you an "enemy of the State"

are you so sure that Big Business isn't going to try to make us pay?
Open Source Software baby.
If people try to swap to Open Source Software and not use the "Cloud", the Mega-Corps will just get their puppet politicians to declare it illegal.

I've already seen articles stating that using Open Source Software means you are a pirate, terrorist, or just an "enemy of the State".

(sarcasm)
Let's face it, only a pirate, terrorist, or an "enemy of the State" would want to stop the Government and Corporations from scrutinizing their data.

Microsoft Wins Patent For Internet Spying Technology

The company has patented a method for intercepting Web-based communications so they can silently be recorded.

Microsoft has been granted a patent for technology that acts as a wiretap of sorts for Internet communication, allowing governments or other law-enforcement authorities to record the data without detection.
Dubbed "Legal Intercept," using the technology means "data associated with a request to establish a communication is modified to cause the communication to be established via a path that includes a recording agent" that silently records the data, according to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In other words, the technology intercepts Internet communications data so it can be recorded for the purposes of reviewing it later by, presumably, government or law-enforcement officials.

Everyone becoming a cloud provider, even consulting companies

CSC: ‘We like to think of ourselves as the Merlot of cloud.’

With the rise of cloud sources, outsourcing is entering a whole new dimension. Just as non-IT companies may find themselves in the cloud business, classic IT providers also are changing their game.
Silicon Angle’s Alex Williams recently spoke to Pam Casale, director of global cloud marketing for CSC, the big systems integrator, about her company’s evolution to cloud services provider. CSC’s new cloud services are similar to Amazon Web Services, but targeted to larger enterprises that need high-value or premium services.
As Williams describes it:
“This 50-year-old consulting giant is going through some changes of its own. These days it is acting in some ways like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and less like its counterparts in the consulting world. ‘We like to think of ourselves as the Merlot of cloud,’ said Pam Casale, director of global cloud marketing for CSC.”

Yup all marketing. "Cloud" == "Internet".

Sure the services are getting gradually and progressively more sophisticated but other than a marketing blitz, there really is nothing new or fundamental about the "cloud".

One thing thats going to slow these cloud dreams down a LOT is the ISPs themselves. They are increasingly headed towards tiered and metered charging and stories like this: "The day comcast’s data cap policy killed my internet for 1 year"

http://www.ozymandias.com/the-day-co...net-for-1-year

Show you how UNready the ISPs are for full blown "internet computing".
