have you got the recent windows update (KB976902) which refers to service pack files?

This article describes the software update that applies to versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that are mentioned in the "Applies to" section. This software update will be a prerequisite to install service packs. Additionally, this update improves reliability when you install or remove Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 updates and service packs.
don't know why it's an optional update - seems quite important

Nope, I thought I'd installed all updates last Thursday, but somehow that one slipped in under the radar. It's installing now.

    Still get the error though.

Noob question here. The package I've downloaded contains:

    MICROSOFT.7.AND.SERVER.2008.R2.SERVICE.PACK-1.RTM.X64.WAVE1.RIP.DVD plus Windows6.1-KB976932-X64 plus Windows6.1-KB766932-X64.exe

I have tried to burn this as an ISO using Infra Recorder and Easy CD/DA converter and I can't seem to do it. I assumed as it said DVD rip that it would just burn as an ISO and then I could install from that.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, John:)

So, is it better to use the .iso version, or the .exe version? Is there a difference?

But the exe. file won't open in Windows. Don't I need to get the whole lot onto a disk?
