Thanks for your input Shawn. I didn't realise that it could be installed from within windows.
I was struggling to create an .iso from my download. I finally succeeded but then came up against the GRUB boot problem I mention above.
At the moment I'm ast work but I will attempt to install from within Windows using the stub exe when I get home tomorrow.
Thanks again, John

Nice to know that Zen00, i was going to try it but a voice in my head told me not to.. let me ask, do you have the optional updates in Windows Update after the SP1 installation?? (Windows Live Essentials 2011, .NET Framework 4.0 Profile Client, etc.)
-
Yes I do, there's an optional update for Silverlight.

After the install of SP1, how many additional updates showed up to be installed?
What procedure did you use? Did you load Windows 7 and then go online for activation before loading SP1 or did you load Windows 7 and SP1 and then go online?
Jim

Dear friends,
I am a new entrant to the site and i am already very happy with "it's attitude"! Yes, every site has an attitude, right? Yours (now, ours) is downright cool! I humbly urge the Admin. to keep it that way. The reason is,if young blood and enthusiasm are to be encouraged, that's the way to go!
Ya,i do yap a bit,but that's only to keep the juices flowing and the threads interesting. Now coming to the Brasstacks, does anyone have any idea about the SIZE OF THE SP1 (sorry for the bold type )? If it is big (?>300MB), the slow internet users like many have to sit, pray and bite off their nails until the download is finished. Was it not the case with Win.XP SP2 and SP3?
Thanking you and with regards,
DR.Sreedhav.
PS: If the size and method of install. have already been dilated upon, then all's fine! Ihate these PS's!
