I added a Microsoft statement to the Ars article in regards to the lower build number. If you haven't figured it out yet, use the official build.

No, Windows Defender is not a firewall, it's antispyware. Windows Firewall is a firewall. MSE is antimalware, which includes spyware.

Go to this site and download all virus test files Tried it and MSE was able to detect the virus.

MSE is antivirus and antispyware.

Where did I say it wasn't? Malware includes both viruses and spyware.
