I'd have to go way of topic to explain my position on consumerism, and I doubt any of it would be fitting for this forum :)

Ivy Bridge is essentially a 22MN Sandy Bridge chip, nothing more.

Is that a good thing? There is another thread going on right now about OCZ's SSD. They have gone from 34nm to 22nm and marketed it under the same name and same version numbers, but it has a lower life expectancy and reduced performance without telling anyone.

If that's the case, it's looking better and better for AMD's Bulldozer. I guess I should have realized... that's because Intel has the tick/tock cycle right? So just a die shrink I'm assuming. Interesting indeed.

Yes. This means the chips will run cooler over lower voltage with the same performance.

If you are interested, here is the link to the OCZ forum. You have to read a little of it but they are calling OCZ cheats and liars as well as a few other things. But, the most interesting part is that they are getting their 25nm nand from none other than Intel. Now that brings up some interesting conspiracy theorys.

Hello seekermeister having seen this what AMD processor are you using as the wait for Intel seems to be taking ages.

What I have now is obsolete, but I have been playing with the idea of replacing it with this:

    Amazon.com: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2 GHz 6x512 KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Processor - Retail HDT90ZFBGRBOX: Electronics

However that was before reading about the Bulldozer. Yet, with the price tag that I expect that it will have, I doubt that I can afford it. I would like to have this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/Phenom-1100T-3...7617316&sr=8-1

But since I will also have to upgrade the motherboard and RAM for either one, this is pushing the budget some.

Its a little more than that. Haven't seen official specs but rumors say it will have PCIe-3.0 which is twice as fast as the current 2.0. That will be big down the road as new products come out with this new interface. Also some improvement of the internal graphics and new memory controller to support faster speed memory.

Oh jeez seekermeister that is some serious difference in price mate down under they are a bit dearer even though the exchange rate is good (for us) but I suppose taking into shipping it equates out somewhat.
Prices here are AUD$255 1090T & AUD$295 1100T still it is still a little strange because your US prices are miles apart aren't they - comparatively speaking.

A bit OT but does this match the difference in mobos for these two?
