More on IE9 by Ed Bott

With Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft gets to show off some of its best work to an audience that is increasingly indifferent and hard to please, and in some cases downright hostile and dismissive. It is not an enviable task.

Good read, the article asks the question
But is that enough to preserve its shrinking lead in an increasingly competitive field of browsers?

Probably among users who use the Windows 7 operating system.
Problem for Microsoft is that Internet Explorers share on Windows XP is shrinking & that will only accelerate as Internet Explorer 8 finds itself competing against rapidly improving modern browsers.

I've just started using the RC. It's ok. In fact it's fine enough.
Ed Bott asks "Can it convince defectors to end their experiments with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox and return to the fold?"

I hope that the so called 'defectors' don't return to the IE fold, if only because Microsoft needs competition to encourage their developers to rise to the highest level, in order to keep their customers and compete with the competition. I shudder to think what kind of mediocre technology we would get from Microsoft (and many other technology companies) if they had a monopoly on their products and didn't have to do anything to keep their customers. I think we all benfit from competition.

I agree. Also browsers are fun as well as a work tool. I enjoy messing about with different browsers. Once upon a time I wasn't aware there were alternatives to IE.

I am having a few issues with IE9 RC. I have a Weather Bug Gadget that I use that has a white box around it when IE 9 is installed. Also I have a Secure website I work on that IE 9 wont first remember the password but then wont let me into the website. I have found Chrome to be my best answer, however I have always liked IE.

Can someone give me some place to start to fix these issues?

Try this for the box around your gadget: On the Desktop, hold 'Ctrl' and roll the mouse backwards until the faint box around the gadget (or any icons with boxes) disappear.
