To be fair, they probably had a lot of traffic. Also, it probably verified the file was intact as it downloaded (so it could be their algorithm for transferring the data).

It was slow for me downloading over cable internet.

Dude everybody in the world is hitting Microsoft's servers for this update.
I know, was just commenting it as funny that a roughly 88MB file took that long over such stellar broadband, to lighten the mood as it were.
Yeah, to be honest, I thought it would be much quicker. One was about 80MB (I think) and another was about 100MB. They were two of the slowest downloads ever of those sizes.

You're not thinking clearly. This update will never make it, it updates files to versions lower than SP1 versions, it has been rendered obsolete on the very same day they promoted it to feature in WU.
Not everybody will be installing SP1 right away. Some won't untill they can no longer get updates until they do. Some never will. For those users it wouldn't be "per se" obsolete.

    Just sayin' :)

Just finalized the install of SP1. Took about 45 minutes from download to final reboot and install. When installing it does hang a bit at 35%. I figure its doing its magic finding or deleting old files.
Anyway we will see if we notice anything different.

    What differences have you noticed?
    Faster speed in IE?
    Or what?
i thought Microsoft improved on there acceleration software in the latest update of there browser before the sp1?

Installation was a breeze over here too, thank God.

However, I find it hilarious that it takes ONE HOUR to download over a 35mbps connection, and yet only ten minutes to actually configure, install and then boot up. Honestly, I think Microsoft needs some better WU servers STAT!
Just took 17 minutes to download the 1.90GB ISO for me on a 15Mbit cable connection.

Actual install/reboot on 3 computers was 30-40 minutes.

Everything working as it should, nothing broken, startup is about 10-15 seconds slower, but reboots are same time as they were before SP1.

Interesting what a difference a download accelerator can make (that and perhaps a lot more people were using Windows Update).

I didn't have to download anything (well...I had to download Win7, doh, lol )....I got my SP1 integrated on the 16th through TechNet :)

Haven't really noticed anything different so far....isn't it just one big collection of all the previously released updates though?

Seemed to take no more time than a normal group of Updates. No performance change noticed (yet).

Does anyone know how long it takes Win7 SP1 installation disks to start showing up in retail outlets? A few friends are waiting to buy, and I want to extract the ISO.

Edit: DL'ing ISO from Technet now.

No, not excatly...at least a quater of SP1 add hotfixes to Windows 7, not released security updates only...you lucky enough to get this from technet!!

File Index had change aswell to bigger size during a Sfc /Scannow. Ms little baby have more shape now.
