hi all
there is a piece on it at V3.co.uk

Quote:
Microsoft will officially launch the latest version of Internet Explorer at 5am GMT on 15 March at the South by South West (SXSW) Interactive festival in Austin, texas.
IE9 will have an updated interface focused on maximising the browser window with a single URL and search bar. It will also be possible to pin web sites, or strings of URLs, onto the main Windows task bar***, and a new download manager has been added.

***google chrome has had this option for a long time

If this final comes out with a huge overlapping "back button" still, I'm going to have a laugh.

Will it update automatically thru WU or will we have to uninstall the RC 1st?

Sure enough, when I asked, Tim Sneath, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Windows and Web Evangelist, “The 64-bit IE 9 RC doesn’t use the Chakra JIT does it? It uses the older, far less efficient one, right?” Sneath replied, “That’s correct–we put all our JIT compiler investment in this release of Chakra into the 32-bit compiler, since that’s the one that is near-universally used today. The 32-bit browser is the default even on 64-bit systems, since almost all add-ons are 32-bit only at this time. The 64-bit version provides no real advantage, since no browser scenario requires access to >2GB of user memory in a single process.”

Wow, seems like everything's happening on March 14. First a Pi Day party at school, then the release of IE9 at around 6 pm EST, then I find out whether or not I've been accepted to MIT at 9:26 pm. Looks like I'll have a lot to look forward to.

Me too. And a larger and longer laugh if the Back button is small, and the Forward button huge and overlapping.
