    Mozilla launches Firefox 4.0

    Last Updated: 22 Mar 2011 at 09:19
For those who wanted to wait for the official announcement from Mozilla, they have now added it to their download site.
As promised, Mozilla has released version 4.0 of its popular browser (on time) to its official download page after two Release Candidates found their way to testers earlier this month; And Mozilla will be hoping to top their previous Guinness World Record of 8,002,530 downloads within 24 hours for Firefox 3.0, which took place in June 2008 with parties in over 25 countries.
At the time of posting Firefox 4 had been downloaded 384,614 times according to the Mozilla download page, you can also view a map of those downloads (updated real time, hourly) here, which appears to show a different number.

Even old extensions will work if you disable compatibility check

Can you tell me what you do to disable this? I've found through all of my web searching that disabling compatibility checks, doesn't allow my add-ons to function in FF4 RC.

    Go to about:config

Create a new boolean value and name it 'extensions.checkCompatibility.4.0'
Then set to 'false' and restart the browser

Or you can edit an extensions "em:maxVersion" to whatever you need it to be, like em:maxVersion>6.0.*

Admittedly it takes a few seconds longer than your method, but if you set the value high enough, you can avoid playing about with the config in the future.

Some still wont work, but most do. Depends on why they are incompatible.

Quite a few didn't work in the Release Candidates even after disabling the compatibility check, but they work in the final.
