    Microsoft pulls offensive vomit ad

    Last Updated: 03 Jul 2009 at 22:52
    Today, Microsoft pulled its latest ad for Internet Explorer 8, which featured gratuitous amounts of vomiting. The ad, was part of a series of ads starring actor Dean Cain and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait.

    The removed ad features a wife vomiting uncontrollably after finding hardcore porn on her husband's computer. The man slips over and she continues vomiting over him. Cain, narrating, then pops in to tell viewers that this wouldn't have happened had the man used an I.E. feature called "InPrivate Browsing". The ad was criticized, not only for its excessive use of vomiting, but also because it seems to be offering tips for how to browse porn without your spouse catching you.

    According to an interview with Techflash, Goldthwait said these were the first commercials he's ever directed and believed Microsoft brought him on board to bring an edge to their marketing efforts.

    Goldthwait created four commercials for Microsoft. The offensive one above titled "O.M.G.I.G.P" or "Oh My God I'm Gonna Puke", plus "S.H.Y.N.E.S.S." (Sharing Heavily Yet Not Enough Sharing Still), "F.O.M.S" (Fear Of Missing Something) and "G.R.I.P.E.S" (Gripping Rage Internet Pathetically Extra Slow').
    Here is the add for all those interested:

    Well it got pulled so...........

    I would have the same reaction if someone had IE8 with a massive taskbar (I have seen this, believe it or not! Over Half the screen was the taskbar....)

    Saw this a day or so ago.

    The main reason they Allowed it;

    • For the younger audience
    • An eye-catcher (sure was!)
    • Comedy

    The main reason they Pulled it out;

    • Many of the older audience thought it was disgusting and offensive.

    They did call it offensive. Don't know why, I thought it was cleaver. Even if I hate IE.

    That's what happens when business people listen to marketing types. I'm not surprised at the ad...Bobcat Goldthwait is a pig and always has been. I am, however, surprised at MS. I'll bet you Bill soiled his drawers when he saw it and made an immediate call to the idiot in charge. Bill may be retired...but not that retired.
