Windows 7: Pre-release Windows 8 code hits PC makers

Releasing beta versions is what Microsoft has learned from the success of Windows 7. They released betas to the public so that they can see people's reactions on what to improve really and that has paid off well and this takes time so its good that they get started now. Windows 7 is still NOT perfect and as we wait, we can hope that Windows 8 will even be better than that.

I hope to see an operating system to be self-sufficient and does not require reinstalls to fix performance degradation and stuff, strong support for the majority of older hardware and software, user friendly, has good networking abilities, has a good backup and restore approach, has a very nice GUI and of course fast.

You are quite optimistic, I can tell looking your screenshot. That 20 gigs going to be enough, you think?

Versions of most software products are worked on in tandem, not sequentially. In other words, Windows 8 was being worked on long before Windows 7 was completed.

Not quick enough for some.

Seriously though it takes ages to write millions of lines of code.
Just look how long it took Mozilla to get FF4 out (I bet it has a lot less code in it than Windows).
