Microsoft follows pattern it set last year when it denied IE9 to XP users, says IE10 is only for Windows 7

Computerworld - Microsoft's new browser, Internet Explorer 10 (IE10), will not run on Windows Vista, either now in its developer preview form or when the software ships, the company confirmed today.
The decision makes Microsoft the first browser developer to drop support for Vista, and follows the move last year when it announced Windows XP would not run IE9, the browser that went final four weeks ago.
In release notes published Tuesday, Microsoft said that users need to run the IE10 Platform Preview on Windows 7 RTW -- the designation for the original 2009 release of the OS -- or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The latter started reaching users on Feb. 22.
Windows 7 RTW must be updated before it's able to run IE10, said Microsoft.
I have seen estimates that there are still well over 300 million and maybe as many as 400 million Vista users world wide.

In fairness, by the time IE10 is released Windows Next (or "8" if they decide to call it that) will be out, or pretty damn close to it. I don't see how this is anything to scream about to be honest.
More likely, 80% of Vista users won't bother, because they won't know the difference. Let's face it, the average computer user knows squat about computers. I doubt they even know if there is a choice. I had someone today, I kid you not, who got the "Browser Choice" menu and thought it was a virus! the actual quote was "My Internet is broken, it's telling me that I need to stop using the little blue E thingy"SIW2 said:
I agree with severedsolo. People who actually know something about computers and like to keep their software up to date (IE10), are likely to have already updated to Windows 7.
I never tried Vista out, mainly because of all the hate I heard people giving it. Skipped from XP up to 7. Hm, seems like Microsoft doesn't want another IE6 time lapse+dependency like scenario occurring, so they're planning on phasing IE9 out quickly.
There are huge parts of the world that are still on XP and hundreds of millions more on Vista

Addis Ababa, February 6, 2010 (Addis Ababa) An Amharic version of Microsoft Vista software was launched here last Thursday.
Launching the Amharic version software is a major step forward for Amharic to be a language of technology, Director of the Ethiopian ICT Development Agency (EICTDA), Debretsion Gebremichael said.
The Amharic version of Microsoft Vista was translated into Amharic in collaboration with EICTDA and Microsoft Company.

They really want people to upgrade to 7.
Well Vista is 4 or 5 years old....
IE10 has some time before it's released (I hope) I would think it would be released when the next version of Windows is available. By that time Vista could be 6 to 7 years old and be yesterday's news.
Kinda sad but I can live with it. :)
