Personally I see little reason to bicker about this. Microsoft likely won't change their mind otherwise IE9 may have supported XP.
My personal opinion on this is;
I do not believe its to get everyone to upgrade to make them more money, they have plenty of that. I personally feel they are choosing to stop supporting older OS's so people will stop using the same OS for many years!
I still have 3-4 friends that refuse to upgrade to 7 even though they have computers that can't even be utilized fully by XP.
Does everyone really expect older Operating Systems' to be supported forever? Even with newer software revisions/versions that are released by Microsoft? Seriously.
As to the argument 'Vista and 7 are almost the same so there is no reason they should not be able to let IE10 run on Vista'. Yeah, you THINK it is almost the same. Only Microsoft knows what was the true differences between the two. You don't know every difference no matter how much you may think you do, get over it.
My thoughts are scattered, but still valid.
who's really going to upgrade their os just to get a new browser to work?
not many, i wager...
Hold on, a program not working on vista? That's not unexpected-- Oh, wait, intentionally? Hm. I think it's fairly obvious that MS wants people on 7 quickly, although it irks me that they'd go to this length to do it.
I love 7! I had XP Pro since it was RTM and of course got to know it very well. I was leary about going to Windows 7 due to imagined compatibility issues. My fears were unfounded, my old Epson scanner and HP printer work fine in 7. Only one bit of old software won't run on my 7, but that is due to my using X64. The software works fine in the X86 version.
I have had a similar experience. Vista was a decent and reliable OS, well at least for me. I had a much better user experience with Vista than XP. I'm always puzzled how the OS got such a bad rep.
On my system (Core 2 Duo T9300, 4 GB RAM) Vista was faster, more secure and just as stable (both never really had stability problems) as XP. And after SP2, there is no question that Vista is vastly superior to XP.
