    Hi all
MS is on the ball here

TEXTING is "Passe" now -- the latest hot way of communications is the Instant Messaging type of service.

By buying Skype MS would immediately start with a HUGE user base to start a decent IM service to rival Google etc.

IM is a GREAT idea --even old dinosaurs like me who ABSOLUTELY HATED TEXT messaging IM is easy to use, you don't need "text speak" and it uses the much cheaper Internet rather than mobile phone service networks where you pay for "Texts sent" etc.

Bad news. I fear integration with Windwos Live Suite and I also fear that they screw up such good software. ...if that ever happen. Skype should ALWAYS be an alternative to Windows Live Messenger.

    Hi there
I don't think Windows Live messagenger is going anywhere -- SKYPE will be OK as MS will use ITS user base and application while quietly "killing off" WLM.

Or they might "re-brand" WLM. Remember there are ZILLIONS of mobile phone and fixed line users who don't use Windows at all --- Macs, Linux systems, smart phones etc etc.

Incidently since the news is now on the BBC website it looks almost "Semi official".

Stuff that appears on the BBC website is usually (or invariably) pretty accurate.
