It's free, so they have little interest in supporting anything old.

I think they should just leave the 3.5 users alone, let them continue using it, and just drop support.
Free? They make $50 million a year ...

Yes. The browser is free to use. Advertising costs the advertisers, just like on any site.

Correct, so Fire $$$ Fox has the money to support the older versions.

So does Microsoft, but they have cut off dates for support.

Why must people be against the progression of technology.
I know its human nature to not want to adapt to change but this is getting redundant.
A few years ago Microsoft announced we need to focus more on security. Many LARGE companies and organizations didnt take the warnings MS announced. I want you to look at what kind of Cyber warfare is going on right now. This is simply because we didnt want to adapt to meet the needs to survive.

I'm with you. Although it mentions 3.5, the day they force me up from my 3.6.6 to 4 so I can no longer use "themes" is the day I dump it.
    g

You can use themes in all firefox up to and including 6.01a (nightly)

Aurora is 6.XX, Nightly is now 7.XX both are glitch free for me. Just will have to wait a bit until the extensions begin to catch up.

Lack of speed. Since 3.6.6, which I'm running, it's getting slower. And slower. And slower. And bigger. And bigger. (Enough fimble!)

    Ooops you said 3.5
FF became faster even on my old XP machine when I upgraded to V4. On my WIN7x64 computer it's really fast. :)

You can easily force the extensions to work with addon compatibility reporter 0.8

if i'm not mistaken the reason for the auto update is due to html support which changes for all web browsers including chrome/internet explorer/safari/opera running old versions will start having problems accessing some web pages from the 1st of august.

simply put they don't and can't be patched to meet the current html 5 standard being introduced.

the other side is it costs less to support current versions instead of multiple versions that span longer periods of time.

Just because someone thinks something is better, does not make it true.
There is a reason new coke did not take off and coke classic is still around.

I myself will not upgrade to FF4.X or later because I believe the GUI changes are downgrades compared to 3.6. I don't like the changes to the right click menu work well for me in real life use and I can not get FF4 to look enough like 3.6 for my taste.
