Haha i assume your Refering to the CloudForums.

And not for many years yet, But it will be there

I can assure you at one point a Forum will be set up to help the users of the Cloud system that is maintained by the Public and not the Companies that tell you to send back the broken bits cause they do not understand their own system.

Oh gawd

Oh please not the cloud it's doing my head in why can't they leave things alone?

Being in the cloud means being a bit of an airhead to me and yeah try telling my lad that when he's coordinating air strikes on those air sims he loves ( I do too but only simple stuff that moves a tad more sedately lolzzzz) plus some asteroid belt star war stuff he was showing me the other day - hells bells the graphics!!

Anyway back on topic I really can't see the point as I said before would you entrust confidential data to some ethereal Alice in Wonderland place errrr not this old bunny.

You'll always be able to cram more graphic cards, HDDs, RAM, SSDs and even CPUs into a desktop.

One of my friends wants to buy a $4K gaming laptop, because he wants to edit videos (occasionally).
He says it has to be a laptop because he writes emails and surfs the Internet, when he is on the bus to (and from) work.
He is only likely to edit videos when he is sitting at home.

I said that he would be better off buying a new laptop for his mobile activities and getting a monster desktop and an extra monitor for editing pictures and video.
Even if he spent $1K on a laptop, I'm sure my other friend could build him a monstrous desktop for $3K.

I'm willing to bet that it would massacre a $4K laptop in every category (except portability).

How the hell are we to do that with a Smartphone? Wait a moment USB? Right so USB controlled Server with a small 8 inch touch screen for input?

I really dont think so.

This Cloud Computing is all just Virtualisation and Remote Hosting, 'We will let you use OUR computer and software for $xxxxxx.xx a month whilst providing you with XXX Gb Space.'

Really? Ok i can go with that but how do i connect?

Oh wait thats right... I Need something with processing power and network connections and the ability to connect to the internet... Thinclient?

They are suggesting that everyone should change from personal computers to small boxes which share an internet connection, which then share a server, which then share processing and ram?

Which in any event can crash at any moment?

^^ Not gunna happen ..

I'll Stick to my Dead Personal Computer...
I agree with that, I can just see in the future of that happening, you'll have to decide which cloud service to use just to type a document up, and decide which is priced the best. That there could be used to jack the customer of money since there would be no other option but cloud services. Me, I'll take my chances with our computers rising up and killing humanity....

Geez, yeah. Just say to him that in three years, that laptop's hardware will be outdated and will a depreciated investment. A 3,000 dollar compulator would massacre, rape, beat, and destroy ANY 4K laptop in one processing cycle.

Hey WS

Mate I'm too confused at the best of times - am going to take an each way bet and 50-50 lolzzzz

Hey I just want to Ebay and chat on forums and do the everyday sort of things like buying bits - not interested in the stuff that seems a bit over the rainbow from the Wizard of Oz. I'll leave it for you young blokes to fight it out.

I just love the big girls (Deskys) I mean if they want to go the whole hog why don't we start talking about making chips so small out of graphene and the like so we end up with devices the size of your fingernail.

I mean it's all a bit a of a money making gimmick, and it's a bit sad really. Have just been hearing about all this hacking over there and other places - why place yourself in that position. As for FB and that twatter well I reckon you must be desperate for something to do - wished I had that sort of time to squander away.

Look if there's a buck to be made there is always going to be some spook who's worked out how to use it to their advantage - thats technology for you - don't you agree??

In any case I'm staying cabled up to a nice big fat desktop. I mean I don't want to ride a bloody bike when I can drive a nice Mazda 6 eh or a V8 Commodore?? Or if I still had my big old Yammy 1100 cruiser why would I want a ruddy moped.

Anyway back off down the rabbit hole lolzzzz!!

I was thinking today about this and I came to a conclusion: desktops are obviously losing their flair. I think why is partly since gaming was one of the reasons why people bought desktops. Well, you can buy an XBOX 360 for probably more than half than what you spent on this desktop and play the latest and best games without issue.

Consoles have nipped sales of desktops some.

Also when I saw looking at my custom built case, I realized the reason why I decided to rebuild my old case. If you look at any stock, generic case from 2003 and compare it with a stock, generic case from recently you'll see it's almost the exact same. The same, mid-size metal box with a side access panel and a hard drive bay that screws out. The only difference is the stock, generic plastic face front that snaps on them. Hell, you could probably snap one off from a newer case and pop it onto an old one!

But when you look at a laptop from 2003 and compare it with one from now, the changes are huge! No longer are they 11 inch, 4:3 aspect ratio screens with resolutions less than a CRT monitor, they are 17 inch wide screens with 16:9 aspect rations with HD resolutions. No more do they have floppy drive or maybe a CD-R drive, they come with Blu-ray burners as either stock or a nice option. No more do they come with underclocked, modified pentium processors, they come now with core duo as a low end processor or maybe with a Sandy Bridge i7 with turbo boost.

Simply put, desktop manufacturers haven't made desktops something to be proud of. They come designed like it's a yearly update to put a new color on the same generic face front as last year's. They all look the same, but have different names affixed to them. There hasn't been a desktop from what I've seen has been designed not over the top like Alienware, nor under-designed like gateways.

Gee, I rebuilt my dell case simply because the case hinges open and not some a-hole access panel that is a bee sting to work in...

The bottom line is people who keeps sprouting stuff like "PC's are dead because tablets will..." are just wannabe folks just saying things just to act like they're cool or something.

If the article said that tablet use is expected to increase then I can go with that, portable computing will be much more common and whether that comes in the form of a smartphone, tablet or otherwise, it will happen. Information/data convenience is a very valuable commodity. Just look at how phone texting affected email usage.

PC's will never be dead, however the use of those portable handheld devices will increase so I'd say expect to see people have 1 or 2 tablets all while using their PC's (desktop, notebook) for everyday life.
