Fox News?
That explains a lot.

I'm predicting an epidemic of vision problems (10+ years from now).

It might pay to invest in companies that make:
  • Spectacles.
  • Contact Lenses.
  • Medical LASERs (LASER eye surgery devices).

Well, you can buy an XBOX 360 for probably more than half than what you spent on this desktop and play the latest and best games without issue.

Consoles have nipped sales of desktops some.

Also when I saw looking at my custom built case, I realized the reason why I decided to rebuild my old case. If you look at any stock, generic case from 2003 and compare it with a stock, generic case from recently you'll see it's almost the exact same. The same, mid-size metal box with a side access panel and a hard drive bay that screws out. The only difference is the stock, generic plastic face front that snaps on them. Hell, you could probably snap one off from a newer case and pop it onto an old one!

But when you look at a laptop from 2003 and compare it with one from now, the changes are huge! No longer are they 11 inch, 4:3 aspect ratio screens with resolutions less than a CRT monitor, they are 17 inch wide screens with 16:9 aspect rations with HD resolutions. No more do they have floppy drive or maybe a CD-R drive, they come with Blu-ray burners as either stock or a nice option. No more do they come with underclocked, modified pentium processors, they come now with core duo as a low end processor or maybe with a Sandy Bridge i7 with turbo boost.

Simply put, desktop manufacturers haven't made desktops something to be proud of. They come designed like it's a yearly update to put a new color on the same generic face front as last year's. They all look the same, but have different names affixed to them. There hasn't been a desktop from what I've seen has been designed not over the top like Alienware, nor under-designed like gateways.

Gee, I rebuilt my dell case simply because the case hinges open and not some a-hole access panel that is a bee sting to work in...
You Obviously Haven't Heard that the new Windows 8 Software is set to be able to Use and Read Xbox Discs.

What do you think that is going to do to Gaming.

Also what about this Cloud Service (Gaming On Demand) Where they Stream the Games to Your PC? If there is no Network YOu Cant Play At All...
Yep, I've heard and relished in it. I really do hope that is true because that WILL bring PC gaming back to life. And yeah, network streamed games sounds nice in theory, but there's the issue that online Xbox mulitplayer can have: network lags.

I just think that is way outrageous ,I mean seriously is it really that crucial to look at facebook or myspace instead of just waiting till later

what are you missing ?

That is why people are getting hurt killed and other things cause there eyes are glued to a mini screen instead of watching where you're going
Agree with this one Solar I get sick of them playing with these damn things at every opportunity and worse when it interferes with the general flow of work. I work in health and well it's bad enough at meal breaks watching and listening to this garbage going on let alone when you find them with these devices when they are supposed to be working.

Personally I reckon the whole thing is just about the most cynical ploy at making money there could be - as for those with these wretched things well being called brain dead would be kind.

As Boasttree pointed out re power production are we going to stop burning coal, oil, and gas to save the planet - DREAMING!!

We have a carbon tax out here coming out soon - now if that is not a blatantly cynical revenue raising exercise then I'll eat my PC's (5) so better get out the ulcer meds eh!! Plus I don't see other countries doing the same thing even though they tell us we are per capita the greatest producers of CO2 in the world.

Sorry mod bit off track there.
Oh my gosh! I remember watching this video! That is hilarious!!

Exactly. You will pay dearly for the cloud, in cash and personal being compromised even further.

The rapid rise of cloud computing, coupled with a slew of increasingly powerful mobile computing devices, is killing the PC faster than analysts had predicted.

In fact, some now say, the desktop PC is essentially dead Ė an immobile zombie that's already irrelevant to many consumers and soon will be to businesses, too.

Yesterday's announcement of Apple's iCloud, which will store content online and sync all of a user's Apple devices wirelessly, is the latest in a series of nails being hammered into the PC coffin. Smart phones and tablets have given rise to a new consumer demand for immediate information at our fingertips, which John Quain, industry expert and longtime technology writer, said has made the desktop computer defunct.

"We donít need PCs anymore," Quain told BusinessNewsDaily. "They are dead."

Cloud computing is no good for developers, designers or anybody doing any REAL work anyway, it's just another silly phase that will pass. It will die for sure.
