Windows 7: For the nth time, they keep saying the PC is dead.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

While tablets and phones have come a long way, PC's will always continue to exist. It's still much easier to type, code, design and process projects with a normal keyboard and mouse where it can be very clumsy and less than precise using a touch interface found on tablets and phones. The above mentioned Photoshop comment is a good example of this.
A mouse & keyboard are a must for me also at this moment in time a PC , probably in 10 or 20 years most people will use the cloud with a touch screen but a keyboard & mouse will be an option as well

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I can see all of this becoming more popular but ...

I can not see MS or any of the major component manufacturers phasing out PCs.

Realistically, wheres theres a demand, theres money and profits to be made.
And all of them, after all, are in the buisiness to make money.

And while many like the idea of Cloud Computing, and backing up files in the cloud, theres just as many or more who oppose it.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit

OK. Two things.

One, I'm not going to play games on some tiny screen when I have my large monitor.
I've played games on my iPhone and it looses it's appeal very quickly. Have you seen system requirements for some newer programs? You might be able to work in Photoshop over the net but how slow would that be with a tablet?

Two, the "cloud" is a stupid idea. What if I can't get on the internet for whatever reason? How will I be able to do any work/recover files if I can't get there or my internet is really slow that day?
I'll backup my files to my external harddrive, thank you.

W10 Pro desktop, W10 laptop, W10 laptop, W10 Pro tablet (all 64-bit)

For gamers and techies like us, the desktop PC may never die but remember that we are the minority. The average user just wants to browse the web and access frivolous sites like Facebook and Twitter so they have no use for a desktop PC. Desktop sales have been sinking for quite some time, most new computer purchases are laptops.

To get an idea of what cloud computing really is (not just storing data on-line) take a look at Google Docs. You can create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc... without installing any software except a browser. When "the cloud" is fully implemented you will only need a dumb terminal device running a browser, essentially your OS, everything else will be in the cloud. We've got a ways to go before that comes to be but it is what we are moving to and for the average user it will do the job.

I'm so stupid. Why buy a gaming PC when I can get a smart phone?

Win7 Ultimate

Here is a thought...perhaps "they" do not want us to have the power and want us to give it up by convincing us the mobiles are just a good....

Windows7 Pro 64bit SP-1; Windows XP Pro 32bit

My wife would be happy if the news were true.
I would not need anymore upgrades!

I am sure I am the only one on the forum with that problem.

reports of the pc's death are greatly exaggerated.

(with thanks to mark twain)

although as strollin pointed out, most people don't really need a full-blown pc for facebooking etc.
