Just come from the Show Us Your Rig thread.

    Yea.
Try tell the lads there that the PC is dying.

Its just not going to happen.

A "Show Us Your iPad" thread just doesnt have the same appeal...
I can almost envision it now... post after post of an unmodified iPad.

I dunno, it sounds like a great idea. Take a look at mine, for example:

See the uniqueness of the grooves protruding outside the center-right hand corner of the screen? I bet that no one can replicate the almost uber-complex-mathematical-algorithm-like-nature-of-the-cracks on this unique iPad

That's rich. The most powerful piece of equipment a person can own is all of a sudden dead and no one needs one anymore.

Remember netbooks? Think hard and you might. They were supposed to be so great and were going to completely replace laptops. They lasted about a year and everyone dropped them.

This guy I know bought a tablet because he thought it could replace a laptop. They can't and that is what he found out. The lack of a keyboard makes them painful to work on for more than a minute.

Then you have people who try to replace a desktop with a laptop. Today's laptops are pretty smokin no doubt but try doing any serious work on them. I mean forget running photoshop. Yeah it can run it but slowly and with a poor display. I have yet to see a laptop with a decent display on it.

I bought a laptop and I sure do love certain things about the laptop but it rarely gets used because I only need it for the mobility in specific situations. Nothing to date could replace the raw power my current desktop has and nothing else has the vast amount of display space my desktop has either.

Actually, look up desktop replacement laptops, there are quite a few that are rocking full HD displays. There are others that have i7 processors that can beat down an entire segment of desktops.

But then again, the only reason why there are highly advanced processors and HD displays in a laptop is only because quite a few people over the past decade have been real naive in thinking a laptop solves it all...

    Desky's for me

I'm with Corpsecrank had two Toshiba laptops now - nothing but trouble and when they are working ok well it's just not the same as a full bloodied keyboard, decent sized screen (unless you can fit a 24" into your pocket) and the sheer ease of modifying inside the case when you want to.

Anyway In hindsight it was a bit of a novelty really - bit like these "gadgets". Besides get to my age and you have a job seeing the displays let alone typing in them. Nah I think those role over screens and the like - bit like toys really plus there is always some new "improved" model to lighten you of a few more hundred dollars.

Well, I can't disagree on laptops being underpowered. With most people aiming for battery life, and with them just being naive, manufacturers just can't resist selling those.

But for people like me who are always on the move and has a thirst for power, there are laptops for that Take a look at my specs, for example. Mobile yet has ample room for an extra 1080p display

There are DATA Centers that run completely on wind power, so as long as the wind blows there will be power to run the data center.
the majority of US households run on fossil fuels.
That is the problem, fossil fuels go out everyone has not power while major servers will keep running. How come people are against wind and solar electricity despite the fact they do work and can power everyones home the same way fossil fuels but when the debate surfaces and Party A wants to build for example wind power turbines everyone screams 'NOOOOOOOOO' Fossil Fuels won't go away they will last as long as our Grand parents another 80 yrs PHFFF yeah right.
looking out at a valley full of wind turbines can be cool in some respects, but can look like hell if you see it often. where i live, they erected a huge turbine over a lake and it sucked any beauty the area had right out of it.

    Haha what utter Trash,

Im young and i have built and operated 5 different computer systems, i work in a networking company which utilises 'VD' However for us to access the Host Server we need to provide authorisation, keys, passwords and be plugged directly into the server, (Cat 5 Guys...)

How the hell are we to do that with a Smartphone? Wait a moment USB? Right so USB controlled Server with a small 8 inch touch screen for input?

    I really dont think so.

This Cloud Computing is all just Virtualisation and Remote Hosting, 'We will let you use OUR computer and software for $xxxxxx.xx a month whilst providing you with XXX Gb Space.'

Really? Ok i can go with that but how do i connect?

Oh wait thats right... I Need something with processing power and network connections and the ability to connect to the internet... Thinclient?

They are suggesting that everyone should change from personal computers to small boxes which share an internet connection, which then share a server, which then share processing and ram?

Which in any event can crash at any moment?

    ^^ Not gunna happen ..

I'll Stick to my Dead Personal Computer...

    Haha Thanks ICit2Lol

I think that sums it up for Everyone in this forum, either young or old. The reason we are here is this is the Cloud, We go to this place to gather knowledge and help people.

Remember the Quote, ' He has his head in the Clouds' It was an Expression of thinking and Being Creative.

That is what using Computers enables us to do, Can you really imagine trying to create an addon to Call of Duty or Team Fortress 2 on a Smartphone? On a Tablet? On a Laptop?

When Cloud Computing Kicks off, who will be there to help them? The Company that set it up ? (Apple? Customer Service? Really?)

No it will be Users like us who have taken the time to learn the systems and the faults and how to fix them, the admins such as Brink that have written the tutorials for new users and triumphed where the computer Customer Service has Failed.

I think we are going to have a new set of Forums Soon, CloudForums, We offer Help.
