PC Dead? LOL
The rapid rise of cloud computing, coupled with a slew of increasingly powerful mobile computing devices, is killing the PC faster than analysts had predicted.
In fact, some now say, the desktop PC is essentially dead – an immobile zombie that's already irrelevant to many consumers and soon will be to businesses, too.
Yesterday's announcement of Apple's iCloud, which will store content online and sync all of a user's Apple devices wirelessly, is the latest in a series of nails being hammered into the PC coffin. Smart phones and tablets have given rise to a new consumer demand for immediate information at our fingertips, which John Quain, industry expert and longtime technology writer, said has made the desktop computer defunct.
"We don’t need PCs anymore," Quain told BusinessNewsDaily. "They are dead."

Haha I know... and now my parents and some friends are all asking me about it becuase theyheard on the news that the PC is dead :P
Well maybe a tablet or phone can replace a PC for those very few people that never really knew what to do with one anyway, but nearly EVERYTHING I use a PC for is just PAINFUL or completely imossible on any mobile device now and for any forseeable future.
I can't see smart phones and tablets coping with Photoshop et al.
I need all the desktop space I can get and I'd look a bit silly lugging a smart phone about that has a 27-inch screen!!
The PC is dead? Long live the PC.

These "PC dead" B$ people keep trolling about is just another way to make it more popular than it is or could be with conventional marketing.
Think of Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and other de facto can't-sing-for-life peasants in "modern" music and you'll get the idea. Or be the MS fan and think of Apple, then go throw up xD
Let's see them try to play "the Witcher 2" on their teeny tiny tablets.

and they don't call their machines pc, catch my drift?
This is just an attempt to sway consumers - don't buy a pc! It's damaged goods. I'm sure the people who will buy this hype are the ones who don't use a computer to it's full potential.
There are still a myriad of reasons why pc's should continue to live and become better.
You always have random airheads that think they know it all by coming to premature conclusions (conjectures) without really thinking about things before they speak their mind.
While tablets and phones have come a long way, PC's will always continue to exist. It's still much easier to type, code, design and process projects with a normal keyboard and mouse where it can be very clumsy and less than precise using a touch interface found on tablets and phones. The above mentioned Photoshop comment is a good example of this.
Gamers won't be able to find tablets and phones a better choice than a desktop (or laptop) PC. A tablet and phone are convenient and are best used in isolated situations. I definitely have no desire to create webpages, write applications, type reports, run diagnostic software, program routers using a phone interface nor would I ever consider doing them on a tablet.
I agree with all of you guys. Also, on the article, it claims that business would be swapping from PCs too. I;m just dying to see 1 million smartphones solded side to side to form some sort of RAID (or RAEP, I guess - Redundant Array of Expensive Phones) to run a massive server. :rofl:
PC's will never die, they might change in shape and size, the pc is the father of all net cadgets etc, also they use pc's to design and try out apps for these new gadgits, be it be phone or pads etc, Its all as "Mr PC says its a way for consumers to buy there products" if your a series highend pc user or gamer the pc will never die,
there is a good sales gimmick been used for years and years which some people full for and thats pricing for instance,
$10.000 but when they see $9.999 they only register the 9 in there heads. So now people are be scard into buying products i would say the use of the sentance "the desktop PC is essentially dead" is missleading and false advertising, The day i find a gadgit do everything i do on a pc @ the same time playing a highend game i will eat my hat.

never mind about Photoshop -- try doing EXCEL with complex VBA stuff and a lot of Charts where you NEED at least TWO screens and a PROPER keyboard to do anything sensible at all.
Manufacturers are only trying to push new products -- and in any case with the amount of data "hacked" these days I don't think too many people are ready to trust "the Cloud" just yet -- if ever for sensitive / commercially valuable data.
Can you imagine the CIA having its stuff on a "Hackable Third party" server (unless its DELIBERATELY trying to mislead its opponents) -- or the Israeli Mossad relying on Computers situated possibly in IRAN for handling its processing.
The PC will be around for a long time yet. -- Nothing wrong with other ways of accessing the web for example using Smart Phones -- but I see these as an ADDITION to PC functionality -- not a replacement for it.
