I'm curious what it is about the third quarter of a year that causes hard drive demand to rise?

I would think the PC manufacturers are setting their goals for the Christmas buying season and will be stocking up on parts. Also my wife asks me what she is getting me for Christmas and it will probably be a computer part.

The would create a surplus, rather than a shortage. Had they said that a shortage was typical in the last quarter of the year, I would understand it better. Maybe it the time when new fathers are looking for an escape from the toils and trouble of fatherhood...nine months after a long Winter of playing around.

If the PC manufactures buy up a lot of drives for their PCs then the retail HDD market will see a shortage.
