I've installed Office 2010 SP1 on two 32 bit machines, the laptop was awfully difficult for no reason. It took four attempts to try to install it, both failed from a 78F error code and another 8...whatever. I ended up having to uninstall it and reinstall it, then it took two more goes at it and it finally worked!

My advice to people having issues with it, if you still have the installer CD or can get a downloaded copy of it, uninstalling it and reinstalling it could help.

My 32 bit virtual machine on the other hand installed it without a hitch. Odd.

Thanks stormy13. That did the trick. Ended up copying all the files to my hard drive, and just had to tell the installer where two of these .msi files were located. First buggy install from MS I have had in a long time.

    Thanks again!

Didn't happen to inadvertently delete the MSOCache folder somewhere along the way would you?

    Local Install Source (Msocache)

If so that would be why the install of SP1 failed and couldn't find those files.

    SP1 Failed Installs

I originally posted #28 for a failure to install. I tried everything here except the slip stream and reinstall. Finally I was getting ready to do the slipstream and I thought while I had the install disk out I would run a repair. After the repair and a reboot I tried SP1 via Win 7 update and it worked. Although I did not have any problems with office that I was aware of something was borked.

Absolutely stormy13. At the time I thought this directory was only temporary and could be deleted, which is true enough until this SP came along.

I finally got it to install, but I had to uninstall restart then reinstall. Then it worked through Windows Update.

True for me. I deleted MSOCache after a fresh install of Office 2010. When SP1 was released, I was unable to install it (error). I had to repair Office in order to rebuild MSOCache folder. And so I was able to successfully install SP1.
