I think Windows 7 is great, hated Vista, but still hanker after XP SP3 as it had impressive performance and stability.

My grandson still uses XP SP3 on a computer with 1GB RAM and hasn't the slightest interest in looking at another operating system until the time comes to replace his computer.
That is actually quite smart of your grandson. There is no way Windows 7 would run half as near as good as XP is running with those kinds of resources. If however he were to try something like Damn Small Linux or one Lubuntu, then he might even enjoy his computing experience even more. Just a suggestion :)
That is because XP is not a resourceful as Windows 7 and will run on even 256MB RAM about the same amount found in a Tablet - But Windows 7 is Stable with the appropriate hardware
I've ran Windows 7 on an Xp machine from the early 2000s and it ran better than Xp honestly. It's just that I never had to ability to make it look pretty though. But if I did, I could had plopped in an uber basic video card to run Areo though!

Its impossible for Mac OS X to get that much users, as it is strictly limited to Apple made computers only, whereas Windows will run on any computer. Even Linux has a higher chance of having more users than Mac OS X in the future...

Sure! The specs evolved to due epic failures but, these were the last final specs of that old puter.

    CPU- Pentium 4 processor @2.4Ghz.
RAM- This one changed a few times, at first install, it was at a gig of DDR or DDR2 RAM, I can't remember now. At the end of its time, it ended up 768 megabytes.
HD- a 30 gig 5400 RPM PATA drive with another 30 gig as slave.
GPU- I think is was an NVIDIA GeForce 200? It was from 2002, so it was before the GT and GTX series.
    PSU- 250 watt banger.

And keep in mind that this machine was literally used for everything except PhotoShop, virtual machining, and gaming. Everything else it handled pretty well. It seemed to had run much smoother running 7 than it did the three versions of Xp it handled. I was impressed!

Yep, the reason is that apple is communist and strictly restricts everything to only work with apple and apple related products. Windows however, is not a communist. :)
