Here is a bit more about this story which started out close to April.

In a move that will surprise some people, while not others but that is bound to split opinion, Microsoft have announced they are to withdraw from the home PC market after Windows 8 to concentrate on their all important business market. MORE Here

UPDATE : For those of you who spotted it, though some didn’t, I can confirm that this is indeed an April Fool and that Microsoft have not announced they’re ditching the home PC market Happy April 1st everyone

A single OS for all MS platforms with a common name is a good idea. Change from "Windows" to ??? dunno. It will all still be "windows" of course.

That article disturbed me more because it suggested that we will have to put up with the already aged xbox 360 for another 4+ years??? Ugh tell me that's not so!

XBox and 360 use a "Completely custom OS" written by Microsoft. However... it contains quite a number of windows APIs. Given those two facts it's not hard to assume that the low level stuff borrows heavily from the Windows kernel/driver codebase, TCP stack etc. But the UI is a complete rewrite. There are no "Windows" in the xbox UI.

So it's not "Windows" but... more than likely a very stripped down embedded version of the windows core with a custom UI.

If anyone has any insight here they will understand that the end of Windows is inevitable so as the Xbox etc. You just have to think far enough in the future. Which is not that far away as Tech is getting so' clever.
