When will you get Windows 7 RTM?
-
If RTM is basically the finished version, is there a reason why they are waiting until October for Official release? I mean if its done, its done. Why a long delay?
This time span between RTM and GA gives Microsoft time to stamp, package and deliver the millions of copies that have to be on the store shelves on Oct 22. It gives computer manufacturers time to load the OS on a few million (or maybe several hundred thousand) new computers and get them packaged and delivered to the stores in time for Oct 22 launch. All this has to take place between RTM and GA so everything will be "generally available"on the general availability date.
The OS is "final" by RTM and developers and a few other "special" categories are offered the software at RTM time by download rather than waiting for GA.
And now you know the rest of the story! (Guess I am supposed to give Paul Harvey credit for this quote)

In my case there isn't any rush. when the dust settles and the dl's get back to normal I will have a go at it.
