The laptop which was used for the test had an SSD in it. For all the money HP "steals" from buyers (much like Apple hilariously overprices their hardware), at least there's something good from them.

I can't really imagine regular HDDs booting this fast, but it's still a remarkable improvement. I can already see comparisons to those funny little Chromebook thingies.

Put a 5400rpm spinner, a today low-end CPU, 2GB of RAM and do that test again. That's probably what a low-end laptop will look like with Windows 8... Biased test is biased.

Heh yeah, after the BIOS boot my current Windows 7 is like 15 seconds to login screen, 5 seconds of me fumbling my password, then another 2-3 seconds to working desktop (on SSD). So like 35-40 seconds total. The only thing that's going to speed that up much is a zero boot time bios.

Will we have instant on BIOSes as the norm by then too? Or is that just a pipe dream :)
I noticed that there were no BIOS pages prior to the logo screen, so that probably means that it was on a Intel system with EFI.

My new computer has EFI and a SSD.
It boots fast. Have not had a chance to time
it but I say 30 seconds.
I am sure Win8 will be fast too. Until the companys
add thier bloatware and slow it down.

Saw that video earlier, and was pretty much amazed. I am really looking forward to using this in Windows 8.

I can see in the future a new post in Windows 8.
My lappy boots slow, 4 sec. Should I turn of Windows services?

M$ has become the computer worlds whipping post....

When you consider just how complex a Windows OS is it is amazing that it is nearly perfect unless there is malware involved or operator error.

Not to say that there might be the occasional small errors but really I don't think you can get much closer to perfection with this type of complicated coding. Am I right ? After all "humans" are writing the code and we DO make mistakes!

I am shocked and awed! That is simply amazing! I do bet that was a SSD considering that I've seen Hybrid Boot on a hard drive, it was way faster than 7 but not even close, at all, to that!

I really hope tomorrow's BUILD conference for Windows 8 will be posted on YouTube, then I will know what I'm watching tomorrow.
