I only use windows for games:), otherwise I am fully dependent on my lovable linux distribution ubuntu 11.10 for my works. In our home we use linux as our primary operating system.

The video is funny by itself, but it makes more sense if you read the guy's 2 articles, about what happened to him.

I don't like Unity (Ubuntu 11.10) or Metro (Windows 8).

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to use Windows 8 with Metro, because of the job I want to do (after I have upgraded my qualifications).
At least after the Registry hack it is basically W7. :)

It'll be interesting to see if this hack lives beyond the DP build and into the betas - there are rumors it will be killed before Win8 releases, although there are also rumors that making the desktop the starting point will also be possible (disabling UAC also seems to disable metro). I'm curious indeed as to what will happen.

Ok, there is NO WAY that buisness will put up with the metro UI. Microsoft has to know that. Therefore there is NO WAY that you will not be able to choose between the UIs. Even if at worst case "Home" and below ("Home", "Tablet", "Starter" etc) get metro and "Professional" and above get the standard desktop...

If they listen to the users at all they will leave the normal desktop option.
Otherwise they are going to kill a massive amount of potential sales.

The current available build is for developers who are working on the Metro Interface which means that the Desktop interface is very underdeveloped, at this stage, the UI is normally one of the last items to be included in a Beta Build program. Apart from one or two new style system apps it is still basically Windows 7.

As we get closer to the official Beta I'm certain that the Desktop UI will be selectable and further developed. As the interface will be designed for multitouch, the iconisation will be a part of the desktop UI, as it is with win7, (the reason for the loose spacing on the taskbar is to allow for touch access).

I am holding off judgement on the OS until at least the official BETA

What I'm wondering is if the release of Windows 8 is going to make me think I need a tablet. I look at the iPad now, and I guess I think it's cool, but then I think, gee, isn't that what I have a laptop for? And my laptop kind of does more, doesn't it? Maybe by then I will finally start to see the light and the usefulness of that form factor, and ways I could integrate it into my life, but right now, I'm not sure that I do.

I just don't want anything I can't directly connect to my external media devices.
That's my basic reason for not jumping on the tablet bandwagon.

If Win 8 is another Vista - we'll be keeping Win 7

...it just works; if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I agree. This very well may turn out to be the new Vista. I'll wait and see what happens.
I ran it a while ago in v-box I didnt care for it then but I'll check it out every so often to see what has changed, got fixed..ect. We wont really know if we like it till it comes out, and we put it on the right platform.
