IE is already kind-of updating by itself. I mean, if you have your Windows Update set to download and install updates automatically, any security updates related to IE 9 will, naturally, update its build. That's why now we have v 9.0.4 instead of v9.0

All the other browsers have this option, so it's only natural that IE gets it too. It may not be appealing to all, but at least there's the option. And unlike other browsers (especially Firefox that can offer updates as soon as a stable version is released, like it happened twice now due to a ridiculous bug that caused crashes) that don't always give you bugfixes you need and have a tendency to break something that was working before, IE's updates are a must-have because they don't break anything or create new bugs. At least, that's my opinion drawn from personal experience.
